Angela is a Partner and Intellectual Property (IP)/Patent Attorney in the Indianapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, an Am Law 100 firm. Angela began her practice as a law clerk while attending evening law school, working full-time, and raising a family. In 2023, Angela became only the second African American/Black female elected as equity partner from associate in her firm, the first in the firm’s headquarters office, and in the firm’s IP department. With over 15 years as a genetic and clinical laboratory biologist, Angela assists clients in procuring rights worldwide for highly technical subject matter in the food/beverage, agricultural, pharmaceutical, life sciences/biotech, and renewable energy industries. Angela's practice also includes agreements and opinions, IP due diligence, and procuring or enforcing trademark and copyright registrations for her clients. In addition to her large corporate clients, Angela specifically focuses on educating and assisting women, diverse, and small business owners in protecting their IP. Angela is a recognized diversity champion in the STEM and legal fields and has been named as one of the 250 most influential business leaders in Indiana. She also hosts an award-winning podcast for the Indianapolis Business Journal called The Freedom Forum with Angela B. Freeman, which explores the intersection of business, race, and gender in Indiana. Angela’s proudest accomplishments, however, are being a mother to her young adult son, a current college athlete.
