Junior Council members will volunteer in the morning to assist with registration and event support. In the afternoon, students will participate in a STEM workshop as a thank-you for volunteering. Lunch will be provided.
Moving forward, the Junior Council will meet approximately once per month, with a mix of virtual and in-person opportunities.
Junior Council participation provides meaningful leadership experience and may count toward community service hours, as IAS is a nonprofit professional organization. Students gain exposure to scientific careers, statewide networking opportunities, and hands-on involvement with IAS programs and events.
High school members of the IAS Junior Council are encouraged to learn more about the IAS Science Talent Search (STS), a statewide research competition for Indiana high school students. The Science Talent Search recognizes outstanding student research and provides opportunities for presentation, mentorship, and advancement to national-level scientific conferences.
Junior Council members can help promote the Science Talent Search through outreach while also gaining insight into the research and application process. Participation in STS is open only to high school students.
