Bikram Sharma, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Ball State University Dr. Bikram Sharma is an accomplished researcher and educator with expertise spanning anatomy, physiology, cell, and molecular biology. As a tenured Associate Professor at Ball State University, he has made significant contributions to vascular biology, particularly in understanding the developmental mechanisms of coronary vessel formation. His NIH-funded research integrates genomic and molecular approaches to investigate the complexities of cardiovascular development and regeneration, advancing knowledge in biomedical science. Since joining Ball State University, Dr. Sharma has led numerous high-impact research projects, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students who actively participate in Indiana Academy of Science (IAS) meetings through poster and oral presentations. His commitment to student mentorship and scientific excellence is reflected in his success with external funding, including three IAS Senior Research Grants, all of which have resulted in peer-reviewed publications. His research and mentoring efforts have provided students with valuable experiences, preparing them for careers in academia, medicine, and biotechnology. An active member of IAS since 2008, both as a graduate student and faculty member, Dr. Sharma has played a vital role in the organization, serving as Co-Chair and Chair of the Cell Biology section. In these roles, he has helped facilitate research discussions, foster collaborations, and promote scientific excellence within the IAS community. Dr. Sharma is also deeply engaged in professional and community leadership. He serves as Treasurer and Chapter Advisory Committee Representative for the Indiana Physiology Society, contributing to the advancement of physiological sciences in the state. Additionally, he is the President of the Nepalese Association of Indiana (NAI), where he works to promote cultural engagement, community development, and academic collaboration among Indiana’s Nepalese diaspora.
